Kindergarten Interest Form

Welcome to Kindergarten

Hi there,

My name is Kristin Gage (Mrs. Gage) and I will be your student’s teacher next school year.

I am a new teacher at Princeton Elementary for the 20-21 school year, but I am not new to teaching. I have taught pre-k for 11 years, TK for 2 years, and Kinder for 2 years. I come to Princeton eager to spread the joy of lifelong learning to the Princeton Eagles as I am a Princeton Eagle alumni myself and a Princeton Eagle parent.  I love the country life and smaller class sizes that Princeton offers as it allows me the opportunity to get more one-one with my students.

I look forward to watching your student grow and learn!!

2020-2021 Kindergarten Academics & Curriculum:

The following is some information regarding the curriculum and standards we will use within the classroom:

For Language Arts we use Benchmark Curriculum. This curriculum is wonderful and includes: grammar, spelling, reading, and writing. The thing I love most about this curriculum is it also integrates social skills and science lessons to make for a well-rounded fun curriculum for the students. Your students will learn that Mrs. Gage loves to incorporate hands on science experiments whenever possible as I feel it really helps the students connect to the lesson.

For Math we will use the program called Engage New York. It follows common core standards. Like our Language Arts curriculum, I will incorporate hands on activities to engage the students in the curriculum and the development of their skills.

In addition to all of this fun curriculum, I will also be using lessons that are supported by the high school’s science teacher, Mrs. Simon. Each lesson is aligned with all the current NGSS standards. NGSS is “Next Generation Science Standards,” The best part of NGSS is showing the students what they are expected to do instead of your usual vocabulary list. Their standards are defined by doing. And like I said earlier, I love doing science experiments!! It gives the children a hands on concrete way of learning.

We will do a variety of art activities every week during our stations so get some wall space ready as your children will have many projects to showcase at home and share.

Our class will also have Physical Education. We will have 20 minutes of PE, five days a week!! I love helping student learn about making healthy choices and learning new games to keep them physically active.

Recesses: When students arrive to school they are able to go get breakfast and then play on the big playground. At the 10:00-10:30 morning recess, students will be on the Kindergarten playground. Lunch recess is from 11:40-12:15 on the Kindergarten playground. The last recess is from 1:30-2:00, students will be on the big playground with grades Tk-4th.

All assessments and grades are from the Common Core Standards and they are all online.  If you would like to know more about them you can go to Common Core State Standards. Report cards are given out each trimester.

Further information about our 2020-2021 Kindergarten class:

Every Thursday, Princeton Eagles folders will be sent home. These include all school announcements that families will need to be aware of. I will also have a weekly newsletter explaining things we have done in the classroom that week, important information coming up, and their progress report for the week. These folders will need to be returned Friday morning.

On the first day of school a packet will be sent home that contains a calendar, permission slips for students to leave campus with their teacher to go to the local library and to the high school, and a permission slip for the school to take photos and videos of your student. These will need to be signed and returned as soon as possible.

Volunteers are always welcome! You are more than welcome to volunteer regularly or on special occasions. Whatever works best for you. Just let me know if you have any interest and we can make a plan. ☺

If you have any questions or would like to speak with me about anything at all my email is kgage@pjusd.org. I am looking forward to being your child’s teacher and for a great school year!!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gage
