OTI Mandatory Tutoring

Princeton Jr/Sr High has instituted a new class assignment policy for Math designed to help students limit missing work and stay on track to pass their math classes.  We have high expectations for your child at Princeton and we will do all that we can to help your child achieve those expectations.  For now, we will focus on our Math classes, but in the future we look forward to the possibility of extending this program to all classes.

We want to institute a new homework policy that we believe will help the students have a more successful year.  The program is called “Opportunity to Improve” or OTI.  Basically OTI is a “Mandated Tutoring” program.  By holding the students accountable and providing another time or opportunity to improve, we believe it will not only raise their grades but help students to develop the discipline, hard work and respect it takes to be successful in school and life.
Our program will be held in the high school career center or “The Nest.”  Students will have access to computers and most importantly tutoring services three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).  Peer tutors and adult tutors will be available to help with tricky assignments or studying for tests.

In order to be available to all students, OTI time will occur from 3:15 – 4:15 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.  Students will be enrolled in the program until their Math grade improves and or their missing assignments have been made up.  Students enrolled in the program must participate in a minimum of three sessions to exit the program, even if their grade improves above failing on the first session.

Students may receive an OTI referral for the following reasons:
Through the End of February (Any student with an F in Math)
March 1st – March 20th (Any Student with an F or 4 missing assignments)
March 23rd – End of School (Any student with a D or F and or 4 missing assignments).

Please contact the school if you do not wish for your child to be enrolled or eligible for the OTI Program.  If we don’t not receive notification of opting out of the program, then it is assumed that your child’s participation is approved.

This is an afterschool program and will require acceptable behavior from all students while attending OTI.  Students that cannot follow the rules each day will be asked to leave the tutoring room immediately.  Parents will be notified when this occurs.

Please feel free to contact the school with any questions you may have regarding the program and or expectations.
